ExpressionMed: Adhesives that Add Customization and Comfort to Wearable Medical Devices

For those with diabetes, wearable medical devices can be frustrating. The device itself is far from inconspicuous and the adhesive tape used to secure the device often leaves uncomfortable residue on the skin. Inspired by a childhood friend struggling with this issue, ExpressionMed’s founder, Meghan Sharkus, began experimenting with adhesives that increase the life and comfort of wearable medical devices.

Finding success with a novel adhesive, Meghan hand cut ExpressionMed tape for almost a year - unable to hire a manufacturer to mass produce the product. But thanks to a successful kickstarter campaign her efforts paid off - the company now has customers in 50 states and over 20 countries.

Meghan has began exploring selling directly through healthcare channels to make the product more accessible to diabetes patients inconvenienced by the current market offering. The future looks bright for diabetes patience and ExpressionMed alike. By next year the company’s printing system will be fully digitized, opening up even greater design and branding opportunities.
